I couldn’t be more pumped because it’s the OLYMPIC SEASON, baby!!!!! I’ve always been a HUGE Olympics fanatic, and I think it’s because we get to witness so much GREATNESS!
On the one hand, we see so many athletes live out their wildest, longest, dearest dreams after so much hard work and dedication and sacrifice! It’s one of the purest forms of JOY I think there is, truly.
As wonderful as that is to witness, on the other hand, we also see so many other athletes experience worst case scenarios and heartbreaks because they were outperformed or made a mistake or the nerves go to them. It’s absolutely devastating to watch because you know how bad they wanted it and how hard they’ve worked.
Truly, we witness the full gamut of human emotion and experience, and there’s so much to learn and reflect on.
Thus far, I think my FAVORITE Olympic Trials moment— from swimming— has to be: Caeleb Dressel. He’s reminded me to:
✨ not let the “losses” or “missteps” determine the whole story. Yes, he didn’t make it back to the Olympics in the 100 free as an individual, but he did return in the 50 free and the 100 fly. If he’d hung his hat on not returning in the 100 free, maybe he wouldn’t have made it back in the other events.
✨ swim with JOY! He has such a lightness about him in this Olympics that’s so reminiscent of the lightness Phelps had in 2016. It’s all smiles and enjoying the ride and doing your best. It’s not about records and medals— although, that’s always nice— instead, it’s about his love for the sport, and about enjoying the moment.
The Olympics are incredible!
I cannot wait for Paris 2024 in a few weeks!
